Environment Canada is warning of heavy rain Sunday in the Greater Toronto Area and other parts of southern Ontario that will make roads wet and slippery.
Fog is expected to bring near-zero visibility to Toronto and surrounding areas, the department said.
Toronto, Guelph, Oakville, Hamilton, Kitchener, London, Vaughan, Niagara Falls, Oshawa, Markham, Richmond Hill and other areas are forecast to receive 20 to 44 millimeters of rain.
Rainy conditions will begin Sunday morning and will be heavy at times. Rain will eventually reduce to isolated showers overnight.
Environment Canada is urging people to stay away from swimming near rivers, creeks and culverts, and to keep children and pets away from creeks and riverbanks.
The Toronto and Region Conservation Authority has issued a flood outlook, watershed condition statement in effect until Monday at 10:00 p.m.
It advises people to avoid all shorelines and rivers within the GTA as rain, above freezing temperatures, frozen ground, ice and snow melt can create dangerous conditions near rivers or other bodies of water.
Fog causes almost zero visibility
Toronto is seeing dense fog that is expected to continue through the morning, Environment Canada said.
In a fog advisory issued at 4:35 a.m. Sunday, the department said the city had begun with near-zero visibility.
“If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance,” it said.
Other areas under a fog advisory include Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Markham, Mississauga, Brampton, Newmarket, Pickering, Oshawa and Durham Region.
