Following the fall of Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has pledged to help rebuild the country.
“Europe will also help with the reconstruction,” Scholz said in a video on X.
After years of suffering through civil war, Syrians deserve a life of freedom and security, the Chancellor said.
The country's new governors must ensure this, Scholz said. “We will work with them on this basis.”
Some Syrian refugees in Germany hope to return to their home country soon, said Scholz. “We will support this as soon as the situation allows,” he said.
However, Syrians who are well integrated in Germany will be welcome in the country, Scholz said.
