World number one Scottie Scheffler has withdrawn from the 2025 PGA Tour season opener after injuring his hand while preparing dinner on Christmas Day.
The Sentry takes place from January 2 to 5 at the Plantation Course at Kapalua in Maui, Hawaii, but the 2024 FedExCup Championship has been suspended for three to four weeks.
Scheffler won his title at the Hero World Challenge earlier this month but will now need surgery for what happened.
“On Christmas Day while preparing dinner, Scottie caught his right hand from broken glass,” his manager, Blake Smith, said in a statement.
“Small pieces of glass remained in the palm which required surgery.
“He was told he should be back to 100% in three to four weeks. Unfortunately, he will have to pull out of The Sentry.”
Scheffler's next scheduled tournament is The American Express which will take in California from January 16th to 19th.
The 28-year-old became the first player to win The Players, The Masters and the FedExCup in the same season.
