Ontario police say they are looking into the death of a 55-year-old man who died this week under a TTC bus.
In a news release Thursday, the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) said Toronto police officers encountered a man acting strangely at the Ossington subway station near Ossington Avenue and Bloor Street West on Tuesday evening.
The SIU said officers spoke with the man and then left the area. Moments later, the man exited the station and fell outside onto the street. He was pinned under a TTC bus, taken to hospital and later pronounced dead.
The bus was making a right turn to head south on Ossington Avenue when it struck the man around 8:25 p.m. Tuesday, police said.
On Wednesday, the police appealed to the public for help in identifying the person.
The SIU said that the post-mortem examination was completed on Thursday.
The SIU has assigned two investigators and a forensic investigator to the case.
The SIU, an independent government agency, investigates police conduct that may result in death, serious injury, sexual assault, or the discharge of a firearm at a person.
