In a gaming world where quits and deists are the most common response to fan remakes or homage games, it's refreshing to see Bethesda embrace projects like this. Follow up Free Unity remake at 2024 player of Dagger waterfall2025 looks set to finally see the long-developed full conversion mod of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion in continuation Skyrimengine.
In a new video called “The Path To Release (Skyblivion Roadmap 2024),” the team of modders known as TESRnewal explains that they have completed eight out of nine regions of the game, after redoing every detail of the 2006 game through a unique creation of A shadowThe nine regions of Cyrodiil have unique flora and fauna for the team to recreate, and that's in addition to the landscapes and cities.
The Gold Coast, for example, is almost complete, with a new version of the capital city of Anvil, “reimagined to live up to its original concept art.” This is the most advanced project, and as you can see in the video below, it looks wonderful.
Given Skyrim itself 13 years old, it is a testament to how amazing his engine is A shield looks (though inspired by Bethesda itself Skyrim: special edition upgrade). It seems rather silly that Bethesda will sit on whatever technology they use The Elder Scrolls VIbut this still looks so, so much better than the 19-year-old A shadow original.
The video's commentary makes it clear that it is for release A shieldthey are legally required to redo all assets, including all 3D models, which is a task of unimaginable magnitude. (Bethesda had a team of hundreds work for four years at full pay to do this the first time – this is a group of unpaid volunteers working in their spare time.) So, the team is looking for more volunteers– especially for navmeshingUI and 3D modeling – to help them get the game over the line.
This whole thing blows my mind. The Skyblivion Team has also written new music for each section of the game, and they are even considering porting throughout the DLC when this main game is finished. Planned since 2011, prototyped since 2014, and in full development since 2018, they are confident of a 2025 release, possibly years ahead of Bethesda's own revision, The Elder Scrolls VI: Hammerfell.
Kudos to Bethesda for allowing amazing projects like this to succeed, rather than sending takedown notices and legal threats. To be able to play A shieldyou must have valid versions of both Oblivion GOTY Deluxe and Skyrim: special editionthough you give you can build now the first one for $5 and the latter for $10 on Steam, that's not a huge expense.
