The Brazilian Navy found the body of the 13th victim when a river bridge collapsed; 4 are still missing


RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) – Brazil Navy said on Friday that the body of the 13th victim was found from a a bridge collapsed last month in the north of the country. Four people are still missing.

The body, which has yet to be identified, was found by drones in the depths of the Tocantins River. Part of the Juscelino Kubitschek de Oliveira bridge that connected two northern states collapsed on December 22.

The police who work on the border of the two states, Maranhao and Tocantins, have said that four trucks, two cars and two motorcycles entered the river when the bridge collapsed.

There has been no word on why the bridge collapsed, although an investigation was underway, said the police and the Brazilian road department. Research of the river in the remote area has been slow.

The 533-meter (1,748-foot) long bridge that connects the cities of Estreito and Aguiarnopolis was built in the 1960s. It is about 1,300 kilometers (800 miles) north of the capital, Brasilia.
