A week ago, CoinTelegraph published a “women who kicked ass in crypto” a piece with only one non-American or non-European woman (Maya Parbhoe) mentioned.
Because I feel that what is happening with Bitcoin in Africa, Latin America, the Middle East and South East Asia – regions where bitcoin is more often used as a currency and as money as the last option – much more interesting than what is happening in the United States and Europe, I am here telling you about some women in the Bitcoin space from those regions that will kick ass in 2024.
Farida Bemba Nabourema – Nabourema is a long-time activist and human rights defender, originally from Togo. She is also the main organizer for the African Bitcoin Conferencewhich, for the past three years, has given Africans an amazing opportunity to showcase and network with Bitcoiners from around the world.
Reyna's daughters – Chicas are Salvadorans promoted to Director of Education for Mi Primer Bitcoin this yearand she also sits on the group's board of directors. Her journey in Bitcoin started just two years ago when she went to the Accepting Bitcoin conference in El Salvador as an attendant.
Roya Mahboob – Mahboob is one of the first female technical leaders in Afghanistan. She also founded the Digital Citizen Funda non-profit that aims to improve the technological literacy of Afghan women. This year, she continued her efforts to create IT centers for girls in high schools across Afghanistan and also brought her educational model to schools in Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Nepal.
Bring Rezkith – Rezkitha is the Community Master for Southeast Asia for It covers and co-founder of Bitcoin Community Indonesia and the Indonesia Bitcoin Conference. In addition to keeping up with her duties for Fedi this year, Rezkitha toured the world speaking about her work at events such as Oslo Freedom Forum and Bitcoin for 2024.
Lorraine Marcel – Marcel, based in Kenya, is the founder Bitcoin Dadavirtual Bitcoin educational platform and sister to African women. She was also awarded the Most Influential African Bitcoiner of 2024 by the African Bitcoiners group.

Isabel Santos – Santos is the co-founder of the Mexican Bitcoin community BTC Islandbased in Isla Mujeres as well as co-founder of the Bitcoin media center Get Established (who recently released a killer documentary titled “How the Federal Reserve Beguiled the World”). In addition, she continued to tour the world this year as a guest at Backstage Bitcoinbrings you some behind-the-scenes juice at the world's biggest Bitcoin conferences.
Noelyne Sumba – Sumba, based in Kenya, oversees an “orange drilling operation” for They are drunkA Bitcoin Lightning wallet that can be used on feature phones. Also, in 2024, the classic Saifedean Ammous The Bitcoin rate published in Swahili and Abdi thanks to Sumba's help in translating the text.
The gift of Christ – Masieh is based in London but was born to Mauritian and Ugandan parents. She is the founder of the Groundswell Projectan organization that works to promote peace and harmony among diverse communities. She gave a speech at this year's “Oslo Freedom Forum” with the title “How Bitcoin Can Fund Terrorism”in which she highlighted how she has taught Somali women how to use bitcoin for political fundraising to support female candidates in the country.
Janet Maingi – Maingi, who is based in Kenya, is a co-founder of A computer without a grida company that was not only mining bitcoin in Africa profitably this year but also he helped bring electrification to rural Africa.
Mary Imasuen – Imasuen, who is of Nigerian and Filipino descent and based in Nigeria, is the Global Marketing Manager for Fedi and a self-described “only bitcoin gamer” who often speaks in support of THNDR games. While Imasuen wasn't touring the world talking about her work in 2024, you could hear from her as a podcast guest or on a gaming stream
Honorable mentions: Renata Rodrigues (Head of Marketing and Community at Fedi, originally from Brazil), Lorena Ortiz (Fedi's Latin American Community Master, based in Mexico), Edith Mpumwire (Ugandan Community Manager for Bitcoin Dada and supporter of Bitcoin Kampala), Sabina Gitau (co-founder of Tandobased in Kenya), Euphrates Fenigson (host of the “You are the voice” podcast, based in Israel)
And I'm going to give a quick shout out to some ass women who crushed it this year from Europe, the US or elsewhere: Caitlin Long (the US-based CEO of Banca Custodia started a lawsuit against the Federal Reserve in 2024), Susie Violet Ward (the UK-based Bitcoin journalist and Head of Bitcoin Policy UK wrote extensively about the dangers of over-regulation of the Bitcoin industry in the UK and Europe this year), Umi Miyahara (the Japanese-American Director of Business Development at Morewhich helped facilitate many new partnerships for Breez in 2024), DJ Valerie B Love (the US-based creator who launched a unique virtual conference this year), Nifty Nei (which launched the Base58 educational platform this year), Gloria Zhao (Bitcoin core dev who does a great job in drawing how Bitcoin works) and L0la L33tz (The independent journalist did an amazing job of covering privacy as it relates to Bitcoin and crypto for its publication The Anger).
