On Sunday, the streets of Goma were alive with motorbikes and were consumed with panic.
Asifiwe Iragi Rugesha tried to navigate her six children through the crowd of separated people. They had escaped a bombing in Kibati that morning. But with the M23 closing in on Goma, they barely escaped to safety.
But, that was the only option, said Ms. Rugesha.
“There's nothing else to do,” she said. “If the M23 comes to Goma, we will die.”
