This is when Switch 2 pre-orders could go live

On January 16, Nintendo officially unveiled the successor to the wildly popular Switch. The new device is simply called the Turn 2it's bigger, smoother, and most of your old games should work on it. But now, the next question you might have is “When or where can I pre-order this item?”

Here's the bad news: Right now, you can't pre-order Switch 2. If you see a website, social media account or app saying you can pre-order a Switch 2, it's a scam, and I'd stay away. away from one of these links. Now, for some good news: we may know when Switch 2 pre-orders go live.

When Switch 2 pre-orders (presumably) go live

At the end of the new Switch 2 trailer, the company confirmed that a Nintendo Switch 2-focused Direct later this year. In particular, the Nintendo Direct arrives on April 2nd. And this is likely to be the date that pre-orders go live in most areas.

It makes sense that Nintendo would wait to start taking pre-orders until it has revealed more games and released more information about the price and launch date of the upcoming console. So I'd expect the April Direct to end with “And pre-orders go live later today!” a hint, or at least a confirmation of when to expect them to go live.

At this time, as seen by Wario64Best Buy allows people to sign up to be notified when pre-orders are live on the retailer's site. I'm not sure you need to do that. All websites and social media accounts dedicated to gaming will be posting about Switch 2 pre-orders as soon as they become available. But if you want to be super-duper sure you have a chance to pre-order Nintendo's next home console, it won't hurt to sign up for Best Buy's email newsletter.

When will the Switch 2 launch?

Officially, the only thing that Nintendo has confirmed about the release of Switch 2 is that it will be in 2025. However, the company also announced at the end of the Switch 2 trailer that it will hold. hands-on experiences worldwide before the console's launch. And we can look at those dates to help us pinpoint a possible launch schedule.

According to Nintendo's websiteNew York City will be the first place in the world where you can go hands-on with Switch 2. That starts in April. Then there are several other cities around the world that will get a chance to check out the device.

Currently, Nintendo has a demo event in Seoul, South Korea planned for May 31-June 1. That is the longest confirmed date. One would assume that Nintendo won't be holding hands-on demo events after the console's release, so we might assume that the earliest launch month for the Switch 2 is in the June. My bet is for July or even August. That gives Nintendo time to squeeze in a few more events if it wants to, and gives the company plenty of time to market the hell out of the Switch 2 between now and then.

We'll update this post as we learn more about the price, release date, and pre-order times for Switch 2.
