There have been a series of reports about several regional caucus rebellions in recent days and it seems that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is on his last legs.
Now, Globe & Mail columnist Lawrence Martin tweets:
Everyone is preparing for Trudeau's resignation announcement, which is expected by Monday.
The wording of that report is a bit wrong and it doesn't say that Trudeau will be step down or just who is 'preparing' or 'expecting' it. He is certainly well-connected as a political columnist at Canada's leading newspaper for decades. Recently write that Trudeau was 'finished'.
At Polymarket, the resignation rate by February is 50% (although the site is not open to Canadians). There is also another fog here with a report saying Mark Carney Yes He reached out to 'dozens' of Members of Parliament to make them aware of his leadership opportunities.
What is difficult here is that it is unlikely that the Liberal Party will have time to run a proper leadership race because the opposition parties can take over the government at the end of the month. That could lead to a situation where an interim leader like Carney tries to limit the damage and then tries to gauge his success (the bar is low compared to the current polling) to try to remain the leader.
Individually report says the Liberal caucus will meet on Wednesday.
