It is not yet clear how one of the US Second Vice President Donald Trump's first executive orders of Angus Trump would affect Canadians who carry gender passports to earn if they traveled to the US
On Monday, Trump ordered the US government to recognize only two genders: male and female. The order also says all federal documents – including passports – check “gender” rather than “gender.”
As of 2019, Canadians who do not identify as female or male can indicate their gender as “x” on their passports.
News CBC asked the US customs protection agency and the borders that may be expected to enter the country to enter Trump's executive order. The group referred CBC to the White House Press Office, which has yet to respond to a question about the order.
Helen Kennedy, Egeatra Canada's Executive Director of Advocacy, said for a non-forced gender passport – and the 2SLGBtq+ community in general.
“We don't know right now what's going to happen and that makes it very, very difficult for people to be concerned about safety should they be concerned. to the states at all,” she said.
Fae Johnstone, Executive Director of Queer Momentum, said that she is avoiding travel to the US for now, her permit will be applied for at the border.
“It's nothing short of a real attack on the translation of diverse people around the world,” Johnstone said.
Carrying a gender passport in terms of gender also leads to problems in general in the US, said Kennedy.
“There is nothing to stop an immigration officer of any limits from preventing people with X Permits from entering their country,” she said.
“On one level there is now compliance with a formal policy.”
Canada's updated travel advice in 2023
Health Card Canada told news in an email that it is aware of the Trump Administration's Order and “is closely monitoring this development.” The department said Canadians should monitor the travel advisory website for updated advice.
“Each country decides who enters its borders. The decision to travel now is the traveler's,” said the email.
Currently there is extensive advice for people who list people who list as x on their passports. He says that they may be a restriction when they travel and that the Canadian Government can guarantee that they will be admitted to other countries.

That advice asks travelers to be careful about laws that criminalize same-sex relationships, or target people based on outside sex or gender.
Kennedy and Johnstone said they wanted Canada to update its guidelines when it comes to transgender people crossing the border.
“I'm sure because our community is involved in what's going on in the US right now that people have a responsibility to be aware of what's happening,” said Kennedy.
For now, Kennedy said that she would recommend that they have a gender-neutral passport to travel to the US unless it is absolutely necessary.
