Oleksandr Usyk has confirmed he plans to make a sensational return to the cruiserweight division if he defeats Tyson Fury again in a heavyweight rematch this weekend.
Usyk defeated Fury to become the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world in May.
Having already accomplished that cruiserweight feat that result made Usyk the undisputed two-time, two-weight champion.
The Ukrainian has already lost one of his IBF heavyweight titles until this Saturday's rematch with Fury, live on Sky Sports box office.
If he wins, he plans to focus on a third world championship of course, but he plans to pursue that back at cruiserweight.
“I will win a second fight again,” Usyk said Sky Sports News“I'll try cruiserweight again. I'll try.”
Although he is confident he can pick up where he left off in the first fight with Fury and win the rematch.
“I feel good,” Usyk said. “It continues, the 13th round because I feel like this.”
He had seriously injured Fury in the ninth round of their first fight. Usyk could do that again, but he warned: “Tyson Fury also had a chance in the sixth round, maybe the seventh round, maybe 12th, 11th, first, second. But Tyson didn't do it.
“It's just talk. Tyson said I had my chance. Yeah, no problem. We have a second fight, I'll try.”
Fury, however, hopes to avenge the first loss of his professional career when he fights Usyk on Saturday and then set up a third fight.
“I want the third fight. I want the trilogy,” Fury said in a three-way call with both Usyk and Riyadh Season event sponsor Turki Alalshikh. “When I beat him on the 21st there will be a third fight, 100 percent. There must be a trilogy.
“I can't wait. December 21st is my time. The belts are coming home and there's going to be a trilogy. A big trilogy in '25.”
Although Usyk just laughed that off. “No,” he told Fury, “you lose again.”
