Want to test Baldur's Gate 3 3 Patch 8 and its long-awaited crossplay mechanics? Larian is now allowing people to sign up to do just that

Larian is sent out Baldur's Gate 3the last big community update of 2024, and it brings good news. Registration is now open for the Patch 8 stress test that is set to take place early next year, so you can throw your username in the hat if you'd like.

As the studio revealed end of last monthPatch 8 is the last major update for BG3, he swears. What will it be? Well, a bunch of things, like crossplay, portrait mode, and 12 new subclasses – with the latter including the likes of College of Glamor bards, surgical wizards, and drunken master monks.

In that announcement, Larain mentioned a stress test for the update that was happening in January 2025, and it is now open registration for that exam, so you can apply to be a part of it by going to this connection. You just pique your interest, so you probably won't get selected, but it's worth a look if you want to.

As for why the test – which is available to people on PC via Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation, but not Mac or GOG – is taking place, Larian explained: “A stress test aims to do exactly as it is; rigorously test the latest version of the game to find any instability or gameplay issues before releasing Patch 8. With your help, we can keep an eye on any funny business.

“Bringing cross-play to a game the size of Baldur's Gate 3 was no easy feat, and we're asking for your help in proving this new functionality.” Share the stress test registration link to call your friends and settle in for cross-campaign play, or head over to the Larian Studios Discord Server to look for a group to play with.”

While mods should be fine, Larian also says that this test will be an opportunity for him to see how they interact with the new features of Patch 8, which hopefully means that they will be released. if released, the cargo orders are not big barrel explosions waiting to happen. The studio is also wrapping up the console mod cure for the holidays starting today, but will be back on that grind in the new year.
