Saturday's preliminary action saw a pair of Canadian records fall.

Tristan Jankovic broke Brian Jones' Canadian record in the men's 400m IM. The record – set in 2003 – was the longest active Canadian record on the books. Jankovic's new national mark of four minutes, 2.01 seconds was third fastest in qualifying Saturday.

Finley Knox also broke the Canadian record in the men's 50m breaststroke with a time of 26.30. However, Knox did not reach the semi-finals.

On the women's side, Summer McIntosh and Mary-Sophie Harvey reached the final of the women's 400m IM, while Sophie Angus reached the semi-finals of the women's 50m breaststroke.

Canada also qualified the team for the final of the mixed 4x100m medley relay thanks to the performances of Angus, Knox, Blake Tierney and Penny Oleksiak.
