ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – A rain/snow mix will keep it wet overnight. Thursday we have a small window to dry out from this latest area of low pressure. However, there is another one that will drag with it a cold Arctic front that will bring in some rain at first and eventually a bunch of snow. But the bigger story is the extremely cold air that will move the clipper system into the Twin Tiers on Friday. Temperatures will become more stable before the cold air arrives to start the Christmas weekend.
That slightly warmer high pressure continues into the weekend, at least the first half. Then for the second half look for heavy and dense Arctic air to return to the Twin Tiers so the temperatures feel more like the North Pole! An overnight low in the single digits for us early next week.
Tonight in the low 30s, cloudy with a mix of rain and light snow. Then mid-to-upper-30s with clouds to start with some clearing for Thursday. After that, the cold air finds us and we step down the mercury for the rest of the week and into the next day.
