A power outage disrupted the Day-Night Test between India and Australia at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide, with the stadium's lights going out twice on the opening day. South Australian MP Tom Koutsantonis clarified that the issue was not due to a lack of power in the state or the electricity grid.
The Oval failed two floodlights on Friday, December 6, in the second Borders-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) test match. This incident happened during the Australian innings after the tea break. The lights went out twice in quick succession as Harshit Rana bowled the 18th over.
There was no power shortage – South Australian MP
Harshit Rana was frustrated as the lights went out for the second time in the match at the Oval. South Australian MP Tom Koutsantonis clarified that the power cuts at the stadium were not due to issues with the electricity grid, adding that it was a problem with the stadium.
“I can confirm that there was no power shortage or power supply in South Australia. Whatever caused the lights towers at Adelaide Oval to go off was not related to a lack of power supply from the Grid,” Labor MP Tom Koutsantonis posted last night on social media.

They went out to turn on the web lights – Report
According to The Age, the incident occurred when management tried to switch on the net lights for the Australian team, possibly due to a system error or trip.
“They went out to put the web lights on so the night watchmen could get a little throw down, and somehow they turned into something wrong or something wrong. It was about trying to get the net lights on,” a source said.
They've run out of electricity in Adelaide – Mark Waugh
Mark Waugh and Harsha Bhogle, who were in the commentary box, joked about the floodlight failure at the Oval. Waugh said the city ran out of electricity due to the use of an air conditioner, while Bhogle said it was the first time he had seen a Test match stopped due to a power issue.
“But hello. They have run out of electricity in Adelaide. Very hot today. Enough air conditioners on,” said Mark Waugh on a report for Fox Cricket (via Indian Express).
“Someone has fallen asleep, so we have to wait. This is a first for me, a trial game stopped because the lights are gone. Is there anyone there?” Bhogle said.
“The lights are back on. Someone just flipped the switch back,” after the floodlights came back on, Bhogle said.
Talking about the match, India were bowled out for 180 runs after winning the toss. Mitchell Starc took six wickets, while Pat Cummins and Scott Boland took two each. In reply, Australia scored 86/1 before stumps on Day 1. Jasprit Bumrah got the only wicket in Australia's innings.
