One of the most exciting things happening with Fallout right now, as we close out what has been a very interesting year for the franchise, is Fallout 76 giving a crack at allowing players to turn them deserters to ghouls for the first time.
This is something Fallout fans have been asking about for years, and it's been implemented in an interesting way that includes sometimes letting you glow bright green. Talking about green things in Fallout, in a recent interviewwe asked Fallout 76 lead producer Bill LaCoste about the possibility of pursuing playable ghouls by letting you play as another Fallout staple – the super mutant.

“I don't know,” said the developer, “I mean, it depends on how the ghoul plays over and how well people like to play. ghoul. When you're talking about super mutants, that's also something that might just be above my pay grade to talk about, in terms of the direction and where it goes. us with that.
“However, if the goal is successful and we are really playing that where it should be, with the type of system we are giving (to) players and (if) it is involved a lot with (with) players, that gives. pause to talk about, 'Okay, does it make sense for us to have anything else in this world that players can do?' Honestly, for Fallout, probably not.
“I know players have asked in the past, could I have a backstory on being a Brotherhood of Steel person? Or being a responder, or a predator, or a settler, and having these backstories to it. But yeah, I think it's always possible that we look at the success of ghoul and talk about, you know, if it makes sense not only 76, but maybe the Fallout games at the time future Right now, I think we're just focusing on the ghoul and making sure it's good.”
So, it seems like the playable super mutant is an idea that Bethesda and Zenimax would at least be open to considering, should the first playable ghoul in the series prove to be that players have a huge appetite for this kind of thing. Maybe your pipe dreams of shredding around the trash like Frank Horrigan's worse twin or a useful brain bruiser with a gatling laser like Fallout 3Fawkes will never stay that way.
