York Regional Police said one of their officers is facing more than two dozen charges – including obstruction of justice and breach of public trust – following an investigation by the force's Bureau of Professional Standards.
According to the police, the constable was arrested on Wednesday and charged with 23 counts of unauthorized use of a computer, two counts of betrayal by a government official and one case of obstruction of justice.
Police spokesman James Dixon did not elaborate on the allegations or charges and said the case is pending in court.
According to police, the constable began working for the York Regional Police in August 2022 and worked in 5 districts.
They say he recently worked at a police-run community resource center in Richmond Hill, Ont.
The constable was released from custody unconditionally and is scheduled to appear in court in Newmarket, Ont., on Feb. 18, according to police.
